2016 Midyear Meeting Registration Opens

CARH BROADCAST E-MAIL — Midyear Meeting Update

October 5, 2015

Start making plans today to attend the CARH Midyear Meeting, to be held on Monday, January 25 through Wednesday January 27, 2016, at the Westin Riverwalk Hotel in San Antonio, Texas!

The CARH Midyear Meeting is highly regarded as the premier affordable rural housing gathering in the United States. We will again offer the leading industry experts and senior-level government officials, presenting the latest information on regulations, pending legislation, and trends that impact your business.

Be the first to hear from CARH’s Washington experts on legislative issues of concern to the industry, with particular emphasis on the United States Department of Agriculture’s Section 521 Rental Assistance program; funding for a variety of housing programs and initiatives; and tax-related issues, impacting the Housing Credit and Bond programs. You will receive the most up-to-date information and tools necessary to increase the efficiency of your business. Strategically planned social activities will allow you time to network with your industry colleagues.

CARH will present the prestigious Harry L. Tomlinson, State Affiliated Association of the Year, and Member of the Year Awards. Be there to recognize and celebrate your colleagues who have excelled in the affordable housing industry and moved our objectives forward through their achievements.

The CARH standing committees will also convene. This is your opportunity to discuss issues that are important to you for CARH to advance through its legislative work, or benefits and services you would like CARH to offer the membership. CARH is your association and you have a voice in where CARH focuses its efforts. You will also have time to meet and greet the loyal vendors and service providers who offer goods and services to the industry, often at a discount.

riverwalkThe Westin Riverwalk Hotel, with its Spanish Colonial style, is in the heart of San Antonio’s world famous River Walk! The hotel affords direct access to this charming and beloved Texas destination. Whether you set out on foot or by water taxi, the River Walk invites you to explore the myriad restaurants, shops and entertainment venues that line the banks of the river, as it winds through downtown in a 32-mile loop.

Wander a bit further and you’ll discover rich sites of culture, arts and history. One such place is Pearl, a neighborhood on the Northern reach of the River Walk that is home to the historic Pearl Brewery, fabulous restaurants, shops, and just steps from the San Antonio Museum of Art. The Pearl Brewery, originally built in 1883, was located on the river in order to have access to the once pristine water. The Pearl Brewery eventually became the crown jewel in the revitalization efforts of midtown and downtown San Antonio. Today, visitors may enjoy a wide selection of craft beers brewed on-site at Pearl.

The world-renowned Culinary Institute of America (CIA) is also located in Pearl, set among the restored 19th century buildings of the former Pearl Brewery. Take a tour of the CIA and stay to sample the Latin cuisine at Nao, the on-campus restaurant celebrating authentic Latin culture.  Book a two-hour cooking class with a CIA chef-instructor.  Learn about wine as you prepare your food.  A CIA pop-up Bakery Cafe´ will delight you with sweet and savory delights prepared by baking and pastry arts students.

Other fabulous sights are the Spanish Governor’s Palace, a National Historic Landmark; the cutting edge Blue Star Arts Complex; and Sea World San Antonio, thrilling entertainment for the whole family. Whatever your interests, San Antonio has something for you!

Our opening reception on Monday, January 25, will be at the historic Alamo where attendees can step into history with a guided tour.  We’ll retrace the steps of heroic Texans and Tejanos, who made the ultimate sacrifice and represent the spirit of Texas liberty. The Alamo has a rich history through the ages, but the Battle of 1836 has become world famous as a symbol of struggle against impossible odds in the fight for freedom.
