Make plans today to attend the 2021 Council for Affordable and Rural Housing (CARH) Midyear Meeting at Belmond Charleston Place in historic Charleston, South Carolina, one of the premier meeting gathering places in the country! The meeting begins on Monday, January 25 and ends on Wednesday, January 27, 2021. (*See the note at the end for information related to the COVID-19 pandemic.)
Leading industry experts and government officials will present the latest news on regulations, pending legislation, and trends that affect the industry. Hear from CARH’s Washington experts regarding the impact of the November presidential and congressional elections on your businesses. Budget issues, the latest updates on the Housing Credit and Housing Bond programs will be examined in detail, as will initiatives from the Department of Housing and Urban Development and the United States Department of Agriculture. At the end of each day, relax and enjoy networking with your industry colleagues during activities that will allow for social distancing.
Always a highlight, CARH will recognize leaders in the industry for their participation, support, and achievement, with the prestigious Harry L. Tomlinson Award, the State Affiliated Association of the Year Award, and the Member of the Year Award. Be there to honor and celebrate your colleagues who have excelled in the affordable housing industry and advanced our objectives through their achievements.
The CARH standing committee meetings are your chance to discuss key issues for CARH to advance through its legislative work, as well as membership benefits and services CARH should offer. *COVID-19 Pandemic Information
CARH expects to hold an in-person Midyear Meeting in January 2021. We are working closely with the hotel and will be following all CDC recommendations, as well as federal, state, and local guidelines and mandates. The Belmond Charleston Place hotel has assured CARH that the safety, well-being, and comfort of their guests is their highest priority. Below is an overview of some of the comprehensive steps they are taking to ensure guests’ safety:
- Dedicated In-house Expertise – Belmond Charleston Place underwent a deep clean prior to reopening, and specific measures designed to protect against COVID-19 were carried out. Disinfectants that kill COVID-19 are used regularly throughout the day, especially in high-traffic areas. This practice is routinely reviewed by the hotel’s safety management team. In addition, strict hand hygiene, handwashing, and alcohol-based hand sanitizers, are carried out by all staff members.
- Enhanced Protocols – Hotel employees are trained to identify the symptoms of COVID-19 and are instructed to stay home if they are feeling unwell or have had contact with someone suspected or confirmed of contracting the virus. Employees are temperature screened before starting work, and if they display symptoms are sent home.
- Safe and Seamless Service – The hotel respects social distancing requirements at all times. Check-in has been streamlined and restaurant and bar menus are written on chalkboards or printed on single-use material. The housekeeping staff will not enter rooms whilst guests are present.
- Partnering with Industry Leaders – The hotel continues to work closely with local and state health officials and have partnered with a specialist to develop the highest standards for your well-being.
Finally, before you travel, if you or anyone in your travel group or members of your household are displaying any COVID-19 symptoms at any time within 14 days ahead of travel, or have been required to quarantine during the same time frame, please contact Central Reservations via info.cph@belmond.com or 888-635-2350 to discuss your options as we will unfortunately be unable to accommodate these guests. The hotel staff will be on hand to support you with making alternative arrangements at no additional charge.
CARH would like to also take the opportunity to thank our first sponsor of the upcoming Midyear Meeting. Sponsor support is vitally important in helping us achieve what we know will be a successful meeting:

“Forty years strong, CARH has never missed an in-person event like we did in June. We have all been through our ups and downs but nothing like a pandemic. It’s time we bring the CARH family back together and Charleston, South Carolina is the place for a face-to-face reunion!!!”
