CARH’S BROADCAST E-MAIL –Member Update

April 21, 2016

CARH’s professional designations are designed to elevate professional standards, enhance individual performance and recognize those executives, managers and maintenance personnel in the rural housing industry who demonstrate the highest level of professionalism, ethics, dedication and expertise.

The deadline for new applicants to submit their application packets for the Rural and Affordable Housing Executive (RAHE), Rural and Affordable Housing Professional (RAHP) and the Rural and Affordable Housing Maintenance Professional (RAHMP) designations is Wednesday, June 1, 2016.

The RAHE designation recognizes CARH members who have worked in the affordable rural housing industry for at least five years, with a minimum of two years of that experience being in a supervisory or executive role. RAHP candidates must have served at least two years in the capacity of site managers, assistant manager, occupancy specialist, RHS or Housing Finance Commission occupancy personnel, the equivalent, or any combination of the above. CARH members must have at least two years of service in the multi-family housing maintenance field to be eligible for the RAHMP designation.

As an additional incentive to apply for a designation, last year, the Ohio Housing Finance Agency added the CARH RAHE and RAHP designations to their list of acceptable certifications in their Qualified Allocation Plans (QAP). CARH and our members are working on contacting other state housing finance agencies to include the designations in their state QAPs.

Candidates for all three designations must have a record of high standards, ethics and integrity in all business and housing matters. They must also be employed by a company who is a member in good standing with national CARH, and must be recommended by a fellow CARH member, or owner/principal of the employing company. Candidates should apply using the application form provided by the CARH national office and must provide documentation showing that they have met the requirements and qualifications for the designation. All completed applications are examined by CARH’s Certification Board of Review. The designations are valid for two years from the date of initial issuance; after two years, designation holders may apply for renewal and, if approved, continue using the designation.

CARH’s Certification Board of Review will next convene at CARH’s 2016 Annual Meeting & Legislative Conference on June 12-14 at the Ritz Carlton Pentagon City in Arlington, Virginia.  Those still wishing to obtain a RAHE, RAHP or RAHMP designation for the first time should provide a completed application package to the national CARH office before June 1, 2016, in order to be considered by the Board of Review.  The Board of Review will not meet again until the 2017 Midyear Meeting next January.  (Current designation holders, who are up for renewal, will receive a separate notice with renewal instructions.)

Earning a RAHE, RAHP or RAHMP designation demonstrates that the holder is at the forefront of the affordable rural housing industry and has obtained the highest level of professional development. Applications and requirement information can also be downloaded from the Education section of the CARH website.  If you have any questions, please contact Tamara Schultz at the CARH national office (703) 837-9001 or tschultz@carh.org.
